Strawberry Banana Chocolate Chip "Ice Cream"

A simple and tasty frozen treat using strawberries, bananas and chocolate chips!

In an effort to use my extremely overripe bananas I decided to try the very popular banana ice cream.  I am a very picky banana eater, so it never fails that I end up with bananas leftover at the end of the week.  I'm also a late night chocolate eater, so I was hoping banana ice cream would be a healthier alternative to my late night chocolate cravings.   My daughter is also lactose intolerant and can't eat regular ice cream and this sounded like a great alternative for her.

I was a little skeptical about bananas turning into ice cream and it actually tasting good.  It just didn't seem really appealing to me, but with the addition of strawberries and chocolate, now that sounded amazing.  That's it, three ingredients make you creamy delicious healthy ice cream.

Just slice 3-4 bananas and about 1 cup of strawberries and place on a lined cookie sheet and freeze until fully frozen.

Add frozen fruit in a food processor and blend until smooth.  It ends up being a nice creamy consistency kind of like soft serve ice cream.

It melts pretty quick, so you either have to eat it right away or put it in the freezer.  Either way it's a delicious way to use up overripe fruit.

My daughter and I devoured half the batch and froze the rest.  It was just as good the next day straight out of the freezer.  I can see lots of "ice cream" in our future around Our Little House.

  1. YUM. We love bananas around here and we always buy way more than we can eat before they start to go bad. I'm doing this!

    1. I've been buying extra bananas just to have leftovers for the ice cream! I would love to know if you make it and what you think.
