DIY Pallet Box Utensil Holder {Monthly DIY Challenge}

DIY Pallet Utensil Holder

Welcome back to another Monthly DIY Challenge!  Incase you're new around here, on the second Wednesday of every month a group of my favorite blogging friends and I get together to share a project based on a particular material or theme.  This month's theme involved creating a project out of wood shims or scraps.  I've created many pallet projects in the past, so of course I was super excited to tear apart yet another pallet.  I usually gravitate toward building wall art, but this time around I decided to go a completely different route.  With backyard BBQ's and parties in full swing it only seemed fitting to build something perfect for outdoor entertaining.

Each box requires 5 pieces (one for the bottom, two long skinny pieces for the front and back and two small squares for the sides.)

First, add wood glue to the end of one of the long front pieces and glue it to a side piece.

Then reinforce the glue with a few small nails.

Do the same with the other side.

Flip the box upside down and do the same to the bottom piece.

Stain each box, let dry, paint then sand for a weathered look.

You don't have to add hardware, but I thought these leftover pulls would be the perfect addition to the box.  They have a large nut glued on the back, so I had to use a larger drill bit to drill a hole large enough for the nut to fit.

Once the box was done it was time to add the vintage metal cups that I bought from Luckett's spring market.   They were only $3.00 a piece and add the perfect rustic touch.  Not only do they work great for holding utensils, but would also be perfect to store paint brushes and other craft supplies.
